How to get the most out of getting involved
For individuals

-
Follow Your Passions: look for groups and projects that reflect what you love most. When you are helping a cause you care deeply about it becomes soul work and it fills you right up!
-
Set Boundaries: Avoid burnout by establishing clear limits on your time and energy. It’s okay to say no when you need to.
-
Ask for Help: Don’t hesitate to reach out if you need support or guidance. Volunteering is a team effort, and when you speak up for yourself, you encourage others to do the same.
-
Find the Game: When tackling tasks that might not be thrilling but are necessary, look for ways to make it enjoyable—turn it into a game or challenge.
-
Celebrate Small Wins: Take time to acknowledge the impact you’re making, no matter how small. Every bit counts!
How to keep the energy flowing
For groups
-
Start with Why: Make sure you are clear on the purpose of your group or project and keep that 'why' visible. When work is grounded in purpose it becomes deeply rewarding and people show up.
-
Create a Warm and Welcoming Environment: Encourage inclusivity, listen to ideas, and make sure everyone feels valued. To boost engagement, personally reach out and invite new people, expanding involvement throughout the community.
-
Offer Meaningful Work: Assign tasks that match their skills and passions, and let them see the impact they’re making.
-
Recognise and Appreciate: Regularly acknowledge contributions, ensuring everyone feels appreciated.
-
Keep It Enjoyable: Dance in the joy zone! Balance action with fun, and avoid overwhelming them with meetings.
-
Provide Clear Paths for Involvement: Help volunteers understand how they can grow and contribute more within the group.
